I'm planning a move to Seattle and looking for neighborhood recommendations around Amazon SLU office. We're looking for a single family home with a backyard, a reasonable commute (<30 mins, can take the bus or the shuttle or drive), and a safe area without severe homeless/drug addiction problem. Lived through too much of that already. Budget is around 5000. Can do a little more for the right place. Any suggestions/feedback are welcome.

He said less than 30 min commute 😂
Like shadyslim said, $$ is the biggest factor. Queen Ann hill is the closest, Ballard and Wallingford hoods will get you there in 30 min. But you want a yard so be prepared to throw down $4500+/month for a house. Or lower ur standards/increase commute
Coming from California, so definitely used to those rents. Would you say these areas are safe and residential? I have also heard about Green Lake and Fremont. What do you think of those?
Define safe. If from violence crime, mugging or stuff like that - yes. Super safe. Car's window broken in to, or package stolen from your front porch? Then no, not too safe. However, that happens more often throughout Seattle now. Queen Anne/Fremont/Wallingford will be your best bet for a house with a yard. Northgate/Ballard/Greenwood/Greenlake will be my next suggestion
If you're completely intolerant of homeless and street people, you should go to the Eastside or North shore of lake Washington, but you're over the 30 limit up there. If you like a little urban culture, and are willing to put up with a car prowl now and then, some Seattle neighborhoods are great: Magnolia, Ravenna, Queen Anne, Sand point, West Seattle, Wedgewood - all within 30 minutes and easy committees.
Thanks for the input. Had not heard of Ravenna. Will look into these.
With a budget of $5000, I’m sure you’ll find something. Neighborhoods up near Northgate rent for roughly 3k. Anywhere with an easy commute has interesting homelessness to go with it.
No matter the budget is, there is a shortage of single family houses. There was not a single Northgate house listed for rent.
Would you be content with a newly built townhome? Plenty of those in Greenwood.
The price you're willing to pay will be a big determining factor.
Thanks, edited in.
