I've come across Glassdoor & LinkedIn salary estimates when job searching and I'm wondering how accurate they are. They aren't verified by the employer, but the estimates across the different sites are relatively similar. Curious because when compensation questions come up in the interview, I'm wondering if I should aim for the numbers in the Glassdoor & LinkedIn estimates.
Look at the number of entries. If it’s based on 5 entries of 1,000s of employees, you can assume it’s not accurate. Glassdoor implemented a “confidence” meter to let you know if the estimate is reliable or not.
One of the websites you can use is h1bdata.com. It’s accurate for the people who are on H1B but serves the purpose for knowing “some” salary data point. Take it with a grain of salt because those data are a percentage of all the data point.
Also H1B data doesn’t include equity. That’s why it’s super useful for IBM… 🙃😭
Glassdoor numbers are super low, cause tech salaries have gone up a lot in the last 5 years and they don’t remove or de-weight old data.
