How are the self-driving car companies doing? Waymo obviously has the biggest advantage with unlimited budget but how are they doing in general?

Aurora is getting dumped by VW in favor of Argo so they’re probably falling behind

In just 18 months what Aurora has achieved is really impressive. When you look at Aurora leadership you will say ohh yeah that make sense. Aurora also got a deal with FCA at the same time which is actually great (Aurora will be building driver for multiple models including ram truck for FCA).

I would not be surprised if in next 3 years if Aurora valuation join 20b which is where Cruise and Aptive are.

What I was saying is by product of such incredible growth in such a short time can be arrogance - but I have no inside knowledge.

Have to side with popen on this one. While the optics of the VW deal seems initially unfavorable to Aurora (due to a clickbaity headline), the reality is the partnership wasn’t mutually beneficial. Obviously can’t get into private/internal information, but Aurora’s position in the relationship has been and continues to be very strong. VWs move was not a sign of a lack of confidence, but rather a business decision that they felt was more favorable to their terms.

And I see what Gargo is saying and agree with the first half of the statement. But I do believe Aurora has a true identity- it’s building a Driver, one that will be able to power any vehicle in the future. There’s no ambiguity on the mission and goal, and for being such a young company there is a surprising amount of maturity embedded within the company from its inception. This is most likely due to the fact that the leaders have led entire divisions at Google/Waymo, Tesla/Autopliot, Uber/ATG, and SpaceX. It’s a truly once in a lifetime type team for such a niche space, and the potential for this company is extremely exciting.

  • If work life balance is even slightly important to you, avoid Cruise. Theres immense pressure to get shit out the door in short period of time. All the time.

Completely agree. Avoid Cruise at all cost if you even want a tiny slice of work-life balance.

Join Aurora. Great culture, strong work ethic, super smart and motivated individuals, an amazing leadership team with expertise in the space, healthy work-life balance, and plenty of upside :) More than happy to connect you with someone internally if you’re ever interested. Feel free to ping 1-1 anytime.
