Joined 1 month back and got assigned to front end react.js module of the project. I have backend developer experience in Goldman Sachs in java. Other modules are in Mobile Dev. Shall I request manager to change team or I need to gulp in this as Pain and check for internal teams later point in time. I don't have much interest in UI. In hm call they did not tell about this. Rejected some good offers as comp was good. Will i be able to shift to backend roles in other teams or i will be treated as fronted guy Tc 31 lpa
Long term doesnt matter which layer you worked on. Its good you are getting opportunity to be paid and learn new tech. Spend 6-12mth on React js, try to be in touch with java tech on the side. As you gain experience, you can contribute more to the project end to end. If JS really irritates you , switch over after 12mths. I like to hire folks with broad experience and deep in few tech area.
Before accepting this team's offer to join, did you ask explicitly whether you'd be working on frontend or backend?
Not really .. i asked about project and tech stack .. now mobile dev also includes java as stack.. may be that was my mistake to ask about exact role of mine
Classic lying by omission trick
Youāre in a good position. I was bait and switched like you, but I had to learn Angular. React is a higher in demand skill.
But angular still uses typescript similar to some oops language .. react is full of shitty js
Try to propose typescript to be used with react for your team. Lead this project. It will look good in your job interviews or performance evaluation. In any case, companies are paying a surprising amount for react developers. It seems like a really hot skill now - not sure about the future though. Learn to adapt with trends; ride the react wave while it lasts :). Frontend/backend get paid the same now excluding a few exceptions like Netflix or hedge funds. Actually, here's a couple videos that go against everything I just said and explains why react sucks and C# is the future: https://youtu.be/iRo18pUs61Q https://youtu.be/eesKd7I7Zq4
.. cause backend Java projects is what you join Microsoft for?
Not java but backend in general
Learn here as much as you can, also keep up Java side as well. Then you can potentially be a full stack developer. Believe me you will have more opportunities
I'm seriously in the same position as you
If you cant help, atleast dont discourage. He has genuine Jr dev concerns, if you have experience pl share your wisdom.
Seriously discouraging guy... Not sure what's his problem
