How cold is living in Toronto

I am an Indian living in Hyderabad where temperatures go as high as 40+ Celsius. I am shifting to Toronto where the temperature is negative for six months with min temp as low as -30 Celsius. Please advice how to cope with the weather. How do you do normal day-to-day work at such temperatures? I will be alone and mostly having food outside.

Easy. Don’t go outside and get a heavy winter jacket

What about going out to have food etc?

Get it delivered and/or have food you can make at home on the days you really don't want to go outside. Most of the time very cold weather is very tolerable with sufficient warm clothing layers but with heavy winds/snow you really won't want to go out.

It’s frigid cold. I suggest living close to work in the first few months

It will be more comfortable than Hyderabad , there is internal heating everywhere except when I’m open

100 degrees with 80% humidity and most of the city without air conditioning. No thanks!

It's not for 6 months only, it's more than that. But you'll get used to it. I moved from TX temporarily and I love it here.

It's just not quite cold enough.

It's not the cold that will get you in the winters. It's overcast a fair amount of time.

Not here to answer your question, but to nitpick on your comment that you are a bachelor hence you will need to MANAGE by having food outside as well. So wrong at so many levels! Sigh! Here's everything that's wrong with Indian men. Sorry no sympathy for you.

I do enjoy taking my girl friend outside here, but just scared at extreme temperatures at the new place. I meant to say : I will be alone and mostly having food outside.

1.The key to surviving the cold is wearing layered clothing. Spend extra money but get a high quality parka - Canada Goose if you are willing to spend. 2. You don't get much sunlight in winter, so consume vitamin D tablets regularly. 3. Pay attention to weather advisory and don't go out in a prolonged winter storm or heavy snowfall. Stock up on ready to eat food in such scenarios, so that you can heat them up in oven yourself. And learn at least basic cooking to survive. 4. Have bright lighting at home to cheer you up. Lack of sunlight in winter is depressing. Meditate, talk to loved ones often, watch stuff you like - anything to keep your mood positive. Certainly make new friends to keep company. 5. Know that you have to bear the cold for about 5-6 months. Spring, summer and fall is beautiful and pleasant.
