How do I become a contractor at Google?

How do I get a SWE contract at Google? I need a temporary job while I look for my dream job in the bay area. I left my job before having another job lined up. Can I just tell the Google recruiter I am open to contracting? with team matching taking so long anyway, I would rather contract and then jump ship to my dream job, instead of having a short stint at a low tier company.

You don’t want this

Better than being unemployed. I don’t know anyone in the Bay Area and can’t get referrals to the companies I want.

I can take being treated like a second class citizen. Any other reason?

You think you can take being treated like a second class citizen, but it wears on you every moment of every day. That said.. TVCs at Google are treated better than other companies. It definitely can be used as a stepping stone to full time IF YOU'RE LUCKY. It's hard work + luck. It doesn't happen for everyone or even most. If you're not currently full time elsewhere, or you're at a tier 3 company I'd consider it for putting Google on your resume (even though you're not supposed to). You will constantly fight for access to groups and other stuff.

I’ve worked at toxic companies before so I can take it for a couple months. It’s nearly impossible to be converted to full time at Google, and that isn’t my goal anyway. It’s just something temporary while I interview at other companies. Coming from a non tech hub, the companies I’ve worked at are barely tier 10.

You need to find a staffing or consulting agency that supplies Google with contractors.

You can find the staffing agencies that supply to google. Go to their portal and you’ll apply.

I'd want to do it backwards; get a contract offer from Google first and then go with the staffing agency that will take the least cut from the billed hourly rate.
