General discussion, how fast did you promo in your career thus far? Please mention from & to for the level - as well as salary / rsu bump?
1 year. 15% only.
Google L4->L5 in a year, L5->L6 about 4 years later. Initial bump on promo was small but continued good performance at the higher level led to significant raises after. TC 480K, I can't tell you exact TC numbers at each promo because even the most recent one was 4 years ago and I really only kept records of salary bumps, not stock and bonus.
Pretty quick. 2017 - learned to code (making like $11 / hr working part time at the bank) 2018 - first job as developer (82k) 2019 - L5 at Amazon (240k) All were company switches.
Did okay with promotions. IC2 —> IC3 —> IC4 all in 1.5yrs each, then IC4 —> IC5 in 2.5 yrs and then IC5 —> Director in 1 yr. Salary increased from 100k to 320k, and equity from 40k/yr to 350k/yr.
2014- college 2017- intern 2017-l3 - 180k 2018-l4 - 260k 2019-l5 - 350k
Some more realistic numbers.. 2007 L3, TC 100k 2009 L4 2011 L5, TC 230k 2016 L5 EM horizontal, TC 320k 2019 L6 EM, TC 470k
2006 Red Hat 2010 Google L4 2012 Google L5 2014 Google L6 2017 Google L7 2019 Facebook E7 TC when was hired at Google was ~130k. When I was leaving was ~900k, though was going to hit cliff as I got a 500k rsu grant over four years because of an Amazon principal offer in 2015.
Smart moves, curious what you negotiated up to at facebook?
