How flexible is Zillow in terms of relocation?

I have received an offer today from Zillow. The team I interviewed is in Seattle. I don’t know if the team exists in SF or not. How flexible is Zillow if I want to work from SF office? I have also received an offer from Microsoft Seattle - Azure Data and Intelligence group (TC: 155k, Level 60) Which offer do you suggest is better? I’m bit confused because Microsoft is definitely a good company to have on resume. TC from Zillow: Still waiting for numbers and details from recruiter. Just got congratulations email. PS: Currently working as Software Engineer at Oracle with TC of 155k in Redwood City, Bay Area. YoE: 2

I only know from what I've seen but I dont think they are that open to working remotely from other offices on initial offer. Most teams dont have cross office situations, although this is sorta changing I think. That said once working here for a while they are very open to relocation and internal mobility in general. I myself have not experienced it though, just seen it. Also as a note your TC from Zillow will likely be less than Microsoft at least as far as I know but I still think it's worth the diff.

What is the ideal pay you think I should ask Zillow?

Oracle YUcb24 OP May 29, 2019

And also do you think they give good stock options or RSUs?

They should give you a free house

I don’t mind getting a free house in Bay Area. 👍🏻

Zillow acquires trulia which is in sf, they formed Zillow group. They even have office and teams in New York

Um, why would you ever move to MSFT at the same TC?

Microsoft myan May 29, 2019

Numbers wise, it’s definitely the same, but in reality, cost of living and no income tax = much more $ in pocket vs. CA. That said, they should negotiate more.

Oracle YUcb24 OP May 29, 2019

I don’t think they’re open to negotiations. Also how are the annual performance bonus or stock options at Microsoft?

F5 Networks <- May 29, 2019

It might be reasonable to ask Zillow if they've any open reqs for SF office and get team matched there? The recruiters are usually willing to do this if it's possible. But I would not take either of the offers, if the new TC <= current TC.

Oracle YUcb24 OP May 29, 2019

What if Zillow’s offer is better than Microsoft’s? Do you suggest Zillow over MS considering MS is highly branded?

F5 Networks <- May 29, 2019

Yes, MS has better brand. But, I'd think carefully about the team, role and TC. You're already at Oracle. You've a brand. Take a leap of faith and pick the role which actually helps you level up. (Better work, better TC)

They'll actually buy you a house.

I left Microsoft to join Zillow; l I liked Zillow's culture a lot more. Also Zillow uses AWS and nice open source tech, and you get a macbook pro for work. At Microsoft I was stuck using a crappy Surface laptop and working in Windows. I suspect that Zillow will pay better than Microsoft level 60. What did you end up doing?

Hey I am looking for some insight on Zillow for an upcoming interview, can I dm you?
