How flexible is Zillow in terms of relocation?

I have received an offer today from Zillow. The team I interviewed is in Seattle. I don’t know if the team exists in SF or not. How flexible is Zillow if I want to work from SF office?

I have also received an offer from Microsoft Seattle - Azure Data and Intelligence group (TC: 155k, Level 60)

Which offer do you suggest is better? I’m bit confused because Microsoft is definitely a good company to have on resume.

TC from Zillow: Still waiting for numbers and details from recruiter. Just got congratulations email.

PS: Currently working as Software Engineer at Oracle with TC of 155k in Redwood City, Bay Area.

Um, why would you ever move to MSFT at the same TC?

I don’t think they’re open to negotiations. Also how are the annual performance bonus or stock options at Microsoft?

10% saving in Taxes is not worth a career move, IMO.

I’m currently working at Oracle. Problem is with the products and team at Oracle. Between Oracle California and MS Seattle, what is better? MS sure as hell may open more opportunities right?

Well, what opportunities are you talking about? Getting into FAANG?

If yes, Oracle can do that. Zillow can do that. MS can do that.

As an experienced engineer, you'd need to be more concerned about the type of projects what you work on, and, your interests than about "brand value".

That is true. The only problem I am facing is the work culture at Oracle. Managers pretend to be superior without being supportive. Heck my manager didn’t know how H1B application works. He is fixated on his opinions and the projects aren’t that good.

It might be reasonable to ask Zillow if they've any open reqs for SF office and get team matched there? The recruiters are usually willing to do this if it's possible.

But I would not take either of the offers, if the new TC <= current TC.

What if Zillow’s offer is better than Microsoft’s? Do you suggest Zillow over MS considering MS is highly branded?

Yes, MS has better brand. But, I'd think carefully about the team, role and TC.

      You're already at Oracle. You've a brand.

Take a leap of faith and pick the role which actually helps you level up. (Better work, better TC)

Isn’t MS better brand than Oracle?

Don't run behind brand, my friend. Look for quality of work/projects.

Your current role should open up opportunities what you want.

MS might be a bigger brand than Oracle. That doesn't mean MS is a better choice.

McDonald's is a bigger brand than Oracle. Does that mean, McDonald's is a better choice than Oracle?

The problem is with all that’s happening at Oracle about layoffs and not being innovative, I feel like shifting to other companies would be a safe option. Plus the current manager at Oracle is not supportive. Is getting an opportunity difficult if I move to Seattle?

I only know from what I've seen but I dont think they are that open to working remotely from other offices on initial offer. Most teams dont have cross office situations, although this is sorta changing I think. That said once working here for a while they are very open to relocation and internal mobility in general. I myself have not experienced it though, just seen it. Also as a note your TC from Zillow will likely be less than Microsoft at least as far as I know but I still think it's worth the diff.

Yeah I’ve been established in Bay Area for past couple of months. I’m just worried what would be the situation at Zillow if I don’t get H1B.

Ask Zillow for premium processing fast and wait for it's approval. It's only matter of 10 days after filing

I still haven’t received H1B. I have two more tries. Say if my luck is so bad that I don’t get it, then MSFT will move to Canada. What will Zillow do?

Also what would Zillow do if I don’t get my H1B since they don’t have offices outside US? Would they let go off employee? That means there is no job security for international students right?
