Right now it does not seem that important as a lot of my friends are doing it to land a job at FAANG, and I would be at the same place and level atleast with more industry experience and less debt. But, somehow I feel that as you move towards top it becomes more and more important. Have you guys faced a situation where your lack of MS degree put you at a disadvantage or the other way round.
A degree from a top-tier US university will always provide dividends - it’s like a boost that you are adding to your resume. MS from a run-of-a-mill US university will only add bragging rights that you can use in Blind’s WP forum. :)
If you remove OPT, no one would be doing MS in US
OPT??
3 years work authorization for international students
It depends on your undergrad school
Hi OP. Have you finished your leetcode and system design grind? If you are chasing TC like everybody else, why not grind those first?
Not relevant. As I am not looking to change jobs at the moment and even though I am chasing higher TC, I am talking about the long run. Will these be relevant 10-15 years into my career when I want to be a Principal or a Fellow engineer? Will a MS degree be?
I have an MS. It's not going to teach you coding skills, but it will teach you managerial and strategic skills, which is why the majority of corporate governance boards are filled with executives with masters and MBAs. The question you need to ask yourself, do you want to go into the executive track?
MS is good to have not must have but I wont have a lotta respect to Non MS guys
I joined MS program after 10 years in industry. If you are joining it to land a job don't. If you are doing it purely for the love of learning something, it will be useful and the u will enjoy it. A lot has changed in 10 years and I am loving it even though it is every weekend of homework.
Well the "love of learning" part is what I cannot decide. Do I want to learn a lit more? Yes. Am I sure that I will be sincere? Don't know.
If one really has love of learning, then YouTube is your best source with so much awesome content. Not sure why u need to do an MS for love of learning
