How long does PIP stay on Amazon’s employee records?

I was put under PIP at Amazon many years ago. I desperately needed the insurance, so resigning was not an option so went through with the PIP. To the best of my knowledge I survived the (extremely stressful) 3-month PIP, or so my manager said to my surprise when I asked him specifically on the last day. A week after the PIP ended, I resigned (I was fortunate I had found a job outside while I was on PIP). I did not have the talk or the walk of shame.

I have since been through other jobs with good performance reviews, promotions and pay raises.

If there are any HR folks here:

I wanted to know if PIP and performance history is kept forever on records? How would it appear on my records?

How does it affect the hiring decision?

Upon getting through PIP, is there a letter or document the manager gives stating that one is no longer under PIP? it has been many years, so I do not recall.

I am not intending to interview with Amazon, but, just curious how things work.

Why would you want to go back to that sweat shop? Besos doesn't give a flying rat's ass about ya.

I see your point. Just one option less among the big 4.

Not planning on going back. Amazon is not for everyone. There are plenty of options. I will make money off AMZN anyway

Forever. We keep record of all the files of an employee.

Does it affect your decision to re-hire?

Depends. You could’ve been blackballed and not elegible to rehire. It all depends on what happened back then.

Yeah, unfortunately it's up to the hiring manager and it definitely doesn't look good. Frankly, when I was a manager there, it would have been extremely unlikely for me to hire you back. Why go back? You've got a job at MS?

Is it a mandatory rule by HR, or each HM can make his own decision?

HR won’t let them hire at will if there’s a valid concern from previous employment.

Good job! Why even bothered to look back. Sounds like it was either a mistake you recovered from or the team/work just wasn’t a good match. Who cares.
