Got promoted recently to sde2 at an amazon subsidiary. Around 200k tc and a little bit over 1 year experience as this is my first job. I know google/fb will probably down level me, but can they exceed my total comp and by how much?
Here is highest L3 offer I’ve seen for MTV, 125k base, 15% bonus, 500K stock/4 years, 50k signing. Person was likely downleveled and had competing offers.
$270k TC sounds like an L4 offer. My understanding is that the high end of L3 is about $220k TC (excluding sign on). $125k base is a little low though...
I completely agree with you. Bands overlap(high L3 getting paid more than low L4), and google downlevels candidates so this kind of stuff happens sometimes. It’s definitely not sustainable for that person to get refreshers that would give them the same comp after 4 years(likely the person would need to be rated very highly, SEE+).
Check http://levels.fyi, has median salaries
Tbh, I’ve seen many people go from e3 to E4 in six months to a year at Facebook so I wouldn’t over index on starting level. If you say you were promoted at amazon, they may even interview you for E4 and see how you do
Depends on how much you are able to give them. Do you have a skill that is in short supply? Think about how you will market yourself
Does that really matter if you're coming in as a generalist?
