Current offer (L4): 155k base + 480k in RSUs over 4 years + 15k annual bonus + 55k refresher over 3 years = ~$310k 2-3 YoE. Have competing offers from Google, Pinterest, and Airbnb. Airbnb is slightly higher, Pinterest lower, no numbers from Google yet Looks like I’m maxed out on base and equity, how much signing bonus can I get? Recruiter indicated there was room there, but have read conflicting things over whether Uber does it anymore
I recently got a 5a offer with a sign on bonus of $35k year one and $30k year 2. I had to negotiate it and I had a competing offer from Google.
thanks! that’s helpful. to clarify, do you get the first half of bonus when you start?
Yes, the recruiter said first paycheck.
Is the 55k refresher dependent on performance?
nah that’s standard IIRC and isn’t prorated. bonus is also based on 1x multiplier (but is prorated)
I was told the refresher is prorated as well. Both bonus and refresh are target numbers, and can be between 1x and 2x depending on performance.
Jesus only 2-3 years fresh out of college and making 300k and complaining it’s not enough? What is this world coming to. You are going to hit a ceiling soon. Tech workers do not make a million a year.
yeah man tech workers are so ungrateful, we should be happy companies are giving us money out of the kindness of their hearts. thank god for their charity lol don’t be naive
Signing bonus is available only with VP approval. We don't have many VPs. So it's a rarity. Competitive offer is one case. Why it pays for everyone to get competitive offers from G or F.
Op, so how many RSUs are you getting?
op did u go to a ivy league or is this standard compensation after 2-3 yrs exp in the bay area?
It doesn't matter what college you go to. If you're from one of FNG and you have good interview feedback on your side, they'll pay $$$
not at all, I went to an unranked liberal arts college in the midwest
Good offers. Did you practice LC? If so, how many problems did u practice?
I have similar YOE and negotiated for 40k signing bonus recently but my RSU were significantly lower (350k). Everything else is about the same. I could have traded in the bonus for additional equity but it seemed like an either or trade and they wouldn’t budge with giving both. It seems like you have more leverage coming from F, so maybe you can push for 40k. I know somebody with masters and 3YOE that got 65k bonus but I don’t know the rest of their comp. So to answer your question I don’t know how much bonus you can get given your equity is high but I’ve seen bonuses range from 25k-65k for recent hires. Also note that the bonus is paid out over 2 years.
What do you mean over 2 years? So 32.5k first year and 32.5k next?
No, half of bonus in first year and half second year. So 20k on starting and 20k on first year anniversary. Edit: I misread. You meant for 65k case. In that case, 32.5 first year and 32.5k second is correct.
OP here: I managed to get a $50k signing bonus
Nicely done
Did you pick Uber?
One of my friends got exact offer few months ago. Can you quote in terms of shares instead of $$$ for RSUs? They got lucky because Uber changed their comp structure after few days. Offer was around 12-14K shares. I also know person who got 8k shares after they changed the structure for L4.
And, no sign on bonus in both cases
