My manager has no trust on anyone in the team. He needs status updates every day in jira, wiki, orally besides keeping track of how many hours we worked everyday. Manager focusses on quantity compared to innovation and quality. Is this Normal in Amazon? Whole team is suffering but no knows a solution to this.
Find another team. Trust me, there's no way out to this situation.
My experience too
Your manager sounds weak. What I've learned in my career is that you should trust your instincts. If it does not feel right, get the fuck out. Don't ignore because it will eventually drown you. Don't fix it, cus it will bite you in the ass, it's not your job to fix it, it's the fucking boss's boss's job, you are just out of your element and don't have time for that shit.
If there’s been and incident in past that caused lack of trust, address that explicitly and specifically the aspects that generated distrust. If there is no specific incident for you manager not to trust you, then drive trust generating activities. Honestly, why approach things assuming people are bad. Look at it from your manager’s perspective, think what would make him have trust, and do it.
Lots of great advice here. I would do a combo....start looking at other options while simultaneously micromanaging your boss. By that I mean copy them on so many emails, overcommunicate so much, over status them so much that they actually come to you and tell you to cool it. Even suggest a daily status.
Micromanagement is caused by lack of trust. Micromanage them back for a bit. Trust me it works.
How? Do you mean just don't trust them?
