Hello, I am currently an epidemiologist in the public health sector. I’ve been working as a professional for a couple of years now and am thinking of a change to data science in the tech field. I believe my role is similar (outside of content) but I’m hoping to learn how to reshape my resume to make it appealing to tech companies and what skills I should be focusing on. I can detail more about what epidemiology is if needed. Thanks!
OP... you are going about it bassackwards. I would apply data science to your day job, get some sample data sets and results and then go job hunting. Harsh though Amazon’s feedback is, it is correct. If you can’t show proof then you are wannabe like the rest of us. By applying software to somethinf you are good at (epi/pub health), you can show that you have street cred
If you are serious about it then you can try springboard job guarantee career track. Highly priced. But it's job guarantee course. But it needs initial preparation and from your side. Basic programming skills. Don't get demotivated by negative opinion about your interests to move to data science. It may take more time for you than others who are already in the Software development. But that's fine. Put your sincere efforts. One day you will will reach their. You don't have to be an expert from the beginning. And don't bother about those guys who show off like experts and tries to demotivate you. Most of them are just talk based on few lines they read in some blog.
Or try this course. I have taken this course. Content starts from basic stuff and each topic is thorough and it's around 500$ only. Good thing about this course is half way you will get mentor to decide and work on project based on your current domain.
Would I be able to crack an interview with big tech companies if I don’t have software engineering skill but if I’ve done this course well?
Every fu*king idiot wants to get into data science field learning just a few intro to python courses. Trust me, your shitty role is not similar.
Be cool Amazon.
