How to get my portfolio noticed

Background: I went to school for animation/ film, worked in the gaming industry an a concept artist/ illustrator for 5-7 years before switching career/ position to a product designer due to lack of jobs in the bay. Have been working as a designer for the past 3 years— currently product designer & illustrator, but my portfolio/ website mostly consists of game art and recent designs. If I ever wanted to be noticed by fb, google, etc. how should I change my site? My main goal is to be a brand systems illustrator but I’m also open to product design or visual design. What would companies want to see on a portfolio?

Add relevant work to your portfolio. They don’t need to be “real.” Create concepts for ui, components and spec them out. Show your whole process story.

I feel kind of like a noob when it comes to the technical design terms I’ve seen fellow designers use during crit sessions or in their site. But I see what you’re saying.

Best way to get around feels no like a noob is to ask lots of questions. No one is going to think less of you
