Recruiting 100% women engineers seems sexist. Though you found a loophole to do it legally it's hardly ethical. I hope to never seek out specific candidates based on gender or race but rather seek out new recruiting tactics that will improve diversity naturally without cherry picking by race and gender. What was done in my opinion was sexist, discriminatory recruiting. If I had hoped to work there I'd consider taking legal action.

I totally see where you're coming from. But if not that, what other solutions do we have? If Silicon Valley is naturally diverse, then tactics like this won't be needed. Though Gusto makes a controversial decision, in this specific case, I think the mean justifies the end.

SAP HPV Feb 13, 2018

@8ulWZy, so sexism is justified of it's convenient for you? In what was is this not sexism? By definition, it is.

> While Gusto has made progress, its engineering team has no Latinos and no African-Americans. Ouch.

Microsoft why though Feb 13, 2018

Yeah, they spent 6 months hiring only women. Next I guess they will only hire African Americans and finally after that only hire Latinos. Such a backwards approach. Literally cherry picking by race instead of simply improving recruiting strategies.

Uber undead Feb 20, 2019

Typical. Most tech companies think diversity is only about women.

They are telling that a ninja or rock star cannot possibly be a woman. Sexism is the essence of pretty much the entire initiative.

It should not men and woman , hire right pple . No one should be given quota

Intel ifpu54 Feb 13, 2018

I can't understand why anyone cares about diversity. Last time I checked, race or gender wasn't supposed to matter and so long as people are fair to each other and choose freely what they want to do, who cares what the outcomes are.

How else are English and Psychology majors going to get lucrative jobs they're not qualified for?

Cisco truthdr007 Feb 13, 2018

Hire with a tagline only for women ;)

Blue Origin login81 Feb 13, 2018

Stop the madness please!!! Can we promote hiring the best individuals regardless of background and respecting individuals regardless of background. Having a discussion with your boss about not being respected because of your background is very important and should be done. Having a discussion with your boss about hiring more people with a similar background should get you thrown out. That kind of discussion is racism or sexism under the guise of diversity.

Snapchat ravens Feb 13, 2018

Lower you bar. When you accept female candidates without coding background or CS degree, you could hire a lot.

Airbnb EmmaThelma Feb 13, 2018

All things equal, it is a mathematical certainty that when you consider fewer candidates out of the total candidate pool you must lower the bar. If you say that not recruiting women lowers the hiring bar everyone applauds. If you say that not recruiting men lowers the hiring bar people boo. Both statements are true. All logic and decency gets thrown out the window when diversity becomes the topic for an article. Please stop publishing this type of nonsense!

You know only 12% of CS majors are women, right? If more that 12% of your engineering team are women, you maybe hiring based on affirmative action, than skills

Pinterest CarrotCake Feb 14, 2018

Article says 18%

I discounted for women getting into these programs due to affirmative action, as opposed to merit
