How wide is the Google phone screen difficulty spectrum?

I just had a phone screen that was a little bit demoralizing. I just barely finished the solution before we ran out of time, and he had to point a fair number of problems as I worked on it. My phone screen last year went much better. He told me I got farther than most people, was very encouraging, and I felt like I did very well. Did I just get a much harder problem, or have I gotten worse? 😥

You've probably gotten worse ... Global warming.

I thought I totally flunked my phone screen with Google - needed tips and pointers etc and struggled through. But still got the on site. Just see what happens, you never know

But then you flunked on site right?

Lol yup. Thought I did okay overall but one interview destroyed me.

Also, don't forget that everyone has their favorite phone screen questions. Some better than others.

I'd imagine the spectrum is wide. I tend to give easier questions over the phone than in person. Phone interview is slightly harder to communicate effectively and if I give a hard question and the person tanks it's game over. If I give a hard question during onsite and the person tanks, the person has 4 other interviews to make up for it

I had the nicest phone interviewer at Google: he told me at the end that "obviously" I passed it... Wasn't that obviously for me at all.

Yeah, that's how my last one was.
