Human migration is, by far, the worst thing that will ever happen to this planet environmentally.

Simple fact, humans pollute. The more humans on this planet and the worse the environment will be for everybody. How did we get to the point where liberals all over the world have changed their views to support this? There's a push to move all of the people from the poor and highly populated areas into areas where population has evened out. This will have the effect of a population explosion, and the planet will be the worse for ware. The only thing see people pushing to help the environment these days is raising taxes to "combat climate change". Forgive me if I'm skeptical that me giving the government more of my money is somehow going to help, because so far it hasn't. So what's the plan? Because this open borders and high tax thing doesn't seem like it's doing much good overall.

In the animal kingdom, when a habitat becomes unlivable, animals migrate. Humans are the same. We need to feel safe and have the conditions to thrive. Why did so many immigrants displace native Americans to make this one of the greatest countries on the planet? They found better opportunities here than in their home countries. The difference with climate related changes, whether man made or natural, disasters or disease spurred, there will be human aspiration to go to a better place for your genes to have the best chance of getting passed on to the next generation. Refugees, immigrants and people migration, esp as the population gets to 9 billion, is only going to grow. Now whether you want government to provide solutions or find a habitat on mars, is up to whoever can successfully help with the situation.

I see you’re at Dropbox - nice. Which location? I’ll assume SF. Are you one of the few native San Franciscans in the city? Or did you move here for a better job opportunity and fuck up the taxes and COL for them? Were you one of those transplants that have added to the trash/emissions/pollution in this city? So what’s the plan to deal with you? Because these open city borders and high tax/COL thing doesn’t seem like it’s doing much good overall. I’m with you, though. It’s all these damn poor Mexican/Asian/African/European immigrants that come to this country, become owners of these billion $ multinational factories, pollute the sky and water, and fuck everything up.

“Humans” do not do most of the polluting - a few industries do. https://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/2017/jul/10/100-fossil-fuel-companies-investors-responsible-71-global-emissions-cdp-study-climate-change Carbon taxes and other neoliberal solutions will not work. Forcing poor people to accept austerity “for the greater good” of the environment misses the largest and heaviest polluters and punishes regular people. Fossil fuels are cheap and so there are not currently “market” solutions. These companies need to be regulated and taxed to build alternative infrastructure that is less harmful than fossil fuels. Politicians are not willing to do this, so it will take a huge popular push.

Consumption is good for corporations. Politics is just business. Nobody pays for sustainability. “In the long run, we’ll all be dead.”
