struggled with sleep for a good chunk of my adult life and recently was able to figure out a routine where I get 8 hours of high quality sleep every day without any meds. AMA
What changes did you make to go from struggling to sleep to getting solid 8hrs every night?
+1
Yeah.. what changed. Instead of AMA, it should be in the post 🤷🏻♂️
What an amateur. I get 10 hours of deep sleep daily
That's unhealthy
TS. Total Sleep.
Seems OP is asleep now.
Where did you buy your narcolepsy lollipops?
What I changed: I started getting up at 5:30 am and go to the gym every day. Fear of getting up so early and not having had enough sleep motivates me to go to bed early. Funny thing happened, which not everyone may like: now my brain is so used to going to sleep around 9pm that it begins to shut down around this time regardless of how tired I am. In the past I could stay up very easily and falling asleep was hard, now it is the opposite. I guess next step in this process is to be able to still get solid 8hours but also hang in social situations :)
Did that for a long time in my 20s but then work happened and was wired until 10-11 and ended up getting 5 hours of sleep/night as I still went to the gym at 6. Then there was the anxiety of not falling asleep fast enough to get a good night sleep until 5:30.. How do you handle oncall?
I’m lucky to not have much after hours fires on my current project. In the past though when I noticed that on call is interfering with my life in any way I’d make a priority to address it: if it was bad code that kept waking me up - i’d fix it, if it were bad processes - I’d have my manager fix it. You should never just accept not getting enough sleep because of work.
No kids?
how do you compare your mood before/after your sleep fix?
Mood is definitely brighter. Not that I am stupid happy all the time, but for sure more positive. Mornings became a pleasant and very productive part of the day, and it feels good to have accomplished a few things by the time most people get out of bed.
😂
