Interviewed at LinkedIn for Program Manager, going thru 2 rounds. In the 3rd round they said it was completely behavioral and a case review (they gave me a take home case study beforehand. That was my '2nd interview'). But when the interview came, they peered into my resume and asked SQL. It is not my everyday tool and I havent used it extensively in a while. The question they gave me was very simple, but I stumbled. I got the concept correct on how to get the answer, but my syntax was very wrong (it was a counting query and I did forget to put a GROUP BY) and took me forever to do as I was suddenly anxious for not preparing for it. At the end, he ended the interview, but not before flashing what I think should have been the 2nd question he wanted to ask, as he was sharing his screen and a slide with a q. I asked him to ask, but he said it's from a question bank, he didnt want to ask that question anyway. I think he was fed up because it was just a 2 slide deck. Not multiple slides with many questions. Its been a week since then. Other than that, he was nice, and we even chatted for like 10 mins more before we ended the convo. Nice guy. Just blindsided. What do you think will happen? TC: 90k YOE: 5yrs
If you are going to put sql on your resume and don't know it well, put it under a "working knowledge" section or something.
I put Intermediate R once & was questioned on R for 30mins. Interview over. Bye bye.
Yooo! I legit laughed out loud here!
Why they code test a program manager? That sounds strange. All the PrM I know don’t code, but occasionally check some metrics, that’s it.
Agree. However it's for their Insights team . Better Q is why a recruiter would tell me specifically (cuz I asked ) that they are not asking SQL questions , then recruiter asks.
I would be conscious. It sounds like this would be an abuse as a data analyst. If it’s what you are looking for, go for it. But I would prefer to work on regular PrM work.
Lol
Update!! I moved up and they want to consider me for another position simultaneously! Looks like "Haha! Nah" folk stand to be corrected. However I am hitting Leetcode for python and SQL I won't be caught again. Thx!
The votes are coming iin and I am not likely to get it, from what it seems. I'll follow up tmw. If I dont hear back or they reply either way, I'll post an update here.
