I have never come across so many bugs

I have to use all kinds of internal/external Microsoft products, sites, and tools. Teams, Skype, Yammer, Outlook, Global Connect, msw, tar, Aurhenticator, OneNote, VSTS/Azure Devops, Azure portal, etc. The list is long. And every single one of those things is fucking terrible. It is literally psychologically PAINFUL to use them. I have never in my whole life come across so many bugs, terrible design, lack of foresight, and straight up carelessness. At the moment it’s the main driving force in my job hunt. I would be Leetcoding on my work laptop right now but some MSIT thing pretty much broke my laptop and MSIT won’t do anything about it. I feel bad for customers. And everyone around me just shrugs their shoulders at all of the shit quality. Fucking kill me now.

Believe me things are similar (more or less) in every company. But people have that impression about Microsoft being the worst (I see that Microsoft is below average product quality) but it is not that bad It is ironic that people keep bashing Microsoft products but can’t stop using them, directly or indirectly.

I’ve worked at other big companies. It really IS that much worse at Microsoft. Much much much worse.

Google Groogle Nov 29, 2018

I worked at Microsoft and I know it is worse but far from being that much worse IMO

LinkedIn Gb3S2l Nov 29, 2018

Dear OP, Yes we know. MS products suck. That’s why we still use Google GSuite, even years after you acquired us, because no fucking way. Love, LinkedIn.

Microsoft 36)a@ OP Nov 29, 2018

I envy you. Hopefully Microsoft doesn’t start to encroach on those kinds of liberties in a few years like they did with all the other other acquisitions. Fight for your freedom for good tooling!

LinkedIn Gill Bates Nov 29, 2018

Gmail beats Outlook, but the rest of Gsuite sucks major balls.

Symantec 0x80007005 Nov 29, 2018

Yes ms does a shitty job with quality. But it also depends on your product type. I will give a few examples: 1. Os: the code is old, legacy and designed way back. It ia in c. It doesn't lend well to unit testing. And redesigning has its own challanges. 2. Deployment model: because it is a platform company, if they break things it is harder to deploy patches in many scenarios. If the machine is bricked or the network is broken you can't do much. Compare that to products designed to work online, you have a bug u fix the server side, and it gets fixed. So servicing is easier. 3. Age of code : office has a million features and it is also old. So per #1 hard to test. No one will rewrite the cash cow. And testing the combination of all features is a nightmare. Compare to google docs, much newer, started with lesser features, only the ones users wanted were added, and newer code, so better designed for testing, validation and automation, also it is server side, cloud based. Per #2 way easier to service.

Are these excuses? This is a massive company with every resource at its fingertips. Also, note that not all Microsoft products are legacy junk that your points might apply to. Some of the products are newer offerings and may even be standalone apps. But they still suck, even with hundreds of engineers working on them.

Symantec 0x80007005 Nov 29, 2018

Nopes no excuses. Perspective. Ms is top heavy, those folks who have been there 20 30 years in the os group don't want to change. Try commenting on a principal engineer's pull request about 'where are the tests' and the reply will be, i tested in my machine locally, it works.

Google googler4 Nov 29, 2018

Fix them and quit whining

Symantec 0x80007005 Nov 29, 2018

I agree. Ms should make an effort to fix. Or atleast not make it worse. The latest ones with Windows and then office is a fiasco.

Microsoft 36)a@ OP Nov 29, 2018

Yeah ok let me fix every single product offering while doing my own job while coming across every productivity-killing bug imaginable. Nah, I think I’ll just GTFO while the going is good.

Microsoft twiddling Nov 29, 2018

Fwiw, I have never come across a bug in Outlook, office, vsts, asure portal, visual studio or onenote. Skype for Business is terrible though.

Symantec 0x80007005 Nov 29, 2018

Aah skype, it was the first video conf software, ms bought it and fucked it up. Now it is the worst. Every other video conf software is better. And then they can't decide, offiCe communicattor, skype teams, what next, and again why not use slack, teams is a poorer version of it anyways

Microsoft MereDork Nov 30, 2018

Hi twiddling. How was NEO last week?

I feel for you, OP. Currently changed company. They use MS office and outlook. All my previous companies used Google. Now, daily task that could've be been really simple becomes a pain... Every time I open outlook to check schedule, I feel depressed 🤦‍♂️

Microsoft 36)a@ OP Nov 30, 2018

😭

Citrix Systems Ronaldfoot Nov 30, 2018

I like outlook. It offers a lot of features

Microsoft undefined Nov 30, 2018

I appreciated this juxtaposition.

Vertivco Warp Zone Nov 30, 2018

Thank you for that.

Amazon PAxv45 Nov 30, 2018

Main reason I left Microsoft, just compare it to Google products. They are way better.

Microsoft ktl Dec 19, 2018

Microsoft products are fine. Their internal tools, however, are pain in the ass the use.
