I’ve been reading nothing but bad things about the IS&T culture at Apple. With that in mind - is it worth the name on the resume for a year or two? How hard is it to get out is the org into better parts of the company. I spent the last few years in a similar org at Autodesk and I don’t know if it’s worth the fight mentally again. Pros and cons from people with direct experience? Coming in as a data architect.
What does IS&T stand for?
It is the IT department
IS&T stands for IT services - support for internal tools and services at Apple. Stay away 10 miles from this org. 90% of the people managers here are incompetent and most of them are there to retire.
It’s crappy. It is seriously one of the most f’ed up culture I ever worked in. Infosys asses became FTEs and screwed up everything in Apple. We used to call them pigs
Lol
Worst org in Apple
What is the the best then?
That’s a good question. What are some of the better ones?
Thanks for all the feedback. Bummer. But at least I know now before I jumped in and found out.
Someone please clarify what is bad about the org? Is it only bad for engineering? All we hear is that it’s bad but never what’s bad about the org?
Top down. A lot of politics. Not systematic. Compensation-wise and working environment-wise, worse than other orgs in Apple.
It depends. Think about it. All IT backbone stuff are there. For example all Apple data center management and CDN etc are there. Similar problems and challenges with Netflix and other cloud provider such as Google cloud MS Azure etc. Lots of fun problems and pays handsome. There are shit teams i that org but it is same for all orgs. My point is that depends on your team. It is obvious but ppl just make claims based on online reviews.
Thanks. This goes anywhere really even in none IT orgs. It all depends on your team to be honest. Your manager may suck and make working in a specific org horrible etc
Fair point. Before I started asking around and just had my interview the job sounded interesting. Good problems. The manager and I got a long. It just wasn’t as in-depth of an interview as I expected. So I was hesitant and started looking around and found all these reviews.
Do not touch IS&T with a 10 foot pole, if you’re an engineer.
This. Transfers are horribly bad too. You have to tell your manager before applying for transfers and the team interviews you as if you were an external candidate. Puts you in a really tough spot if the team decides not to hire you.
I got an offer from IS&T (Hyderabad) the team is responsible for B2B sales channel, I have other offers from Flipkart and Swiggy. What should i do given that there are so many negative reviews. Also can i switch team and move to maps or iCloud
