I graduated last year. I joined a really cool startup after my graduation as software engineer but couldn't take my manager over there and decided to switch after 6 months and started interviewing. I joined my current company with a better job level and slightly better TC. Meanwhile, I received a verbal offer from one of the FAANG companies but the offer didn't go through which has been really disheartening. My current company is not one of the core tech companies and has sometimes a conservative approach in terms of adapting new stack. I am afraid that it might will affect my profile on a long run. Also since its only have been 3 months in my current role if I start applying again it looks like job hopping ( 6 months in previous role). I am not sure what should be the best time to make the move. Since I have got the offer from a FAANG company once, now I am trying to get into one of those companies again but finding it difficult to get the call.
Ideal time is when you are ready. If you think you will not grow where you are, move. You will find it easier to explain this to your interviewers if you have clarity on your goals. Ideal time is also when you have a steady paycheck coming in.
In terms of year what will be the right time to apply as most of the recruiter/hiring manager filter your resume out if you are looking for job switch after short time.
I have not known this to be a case but it could be different for people. I’d suggest try LinkedIn’s feature where you can let recruiters know you are actively/passively looking (feature’s name skips me but it is easy to find) If after a month you don’t see very many responses, I’d attribute that to the time (i.e. year end and holiday time). Come January the hustle should started again for a lot of companies out there. When you do get a call, be prepared with a solid answer as to why you are looking around and why <new insert company name here>. If you are still worried about leaving your current company too soon - as someone else suggested, 2-3 years is the norm.
Whenever you’re fully vested if you’re not climbing the ladder wherever you’re at.
Wait a minute.. are you currently @Fidelity ?

Why didn’t the FAANG thing pan out?
They did a reorg in the team and reached the headcount so the approval didn’t go through.
O wow.. sorry dude. 😐
Once every 2-3 years. Exceptions for situations where you need to get out: bad manager, failing company / massive layoffs imminent, etc
