If the H1-B changes materialize and you are deported (or self-deport), where would you go?

Canada is the second best option pay wise. You'd be getting a somewhat similar pay than Bay Area. Toronto is booming, almost all major tech companies have offices there including Fb, Google, Amazon, Microsoft etc.. It's much cheaper than SF as well.

You can get a Canadian green card pretty easily (1-2 years). Once you have that, you can even go back to the US on a TN-visa. Your employer doesn't even need to sponsor you for it, you just show the immigration officer at the airport your job offer and you're all set.

You could also use this to get a US green card faster.. Get your company to transfer you from TN visa to another kind of visa like L or h1b and you no longer will be in the Indian 80 year queue.

Canada will never have immigration like the US, so don't worry. The conservative party is the only party that would try to mimic Trump, but unlike here in the US.. You can't really fear monger in Canada (Hence why conservatives lost the last election). By the time conservatives come back into power, you'll be a permanent resident so the laws won't affect you.

TN visas are only available to citizens of Canada, not green card holders

Get your Canadian citizenship than.. Takes 4 years. Still beats waiting 80 years. The other option is the L1 visa.. Work in Canada for Facebook for 1-2 years and get sponsored for L1 visa.

also for the sake of gc the country of eligibility is determined by the country of birth and not by citizenship. so, unfortunately, even with Canadian citizenship somebody born in India ends up in Indian queue. however, getting married on somebody who is born in Canada opens an option for cross chargability (the couple can choose the queue)

But you can come on L1A and file in EB1C, meant for Managers and execs. Super easy to do, but you need to be a manager. No need to file PERM, you’ll get GC within 1 year

Hehe. In all honesty im pissed about trump. The reason we hire H1B is because there isnt enough americans qualified to do the work. How the fuck is the work gonna get done by Americans when we dont have enough skilled workers and education is increasingly cost prohibitive. Its a fucking joke. He wants America to go down

I don’t buy the “there isn’t enough qualified Americans to do the work” argument. H1Bs are here since they are cheap labor. This is both detrimental to Americans and H1Bs.

every big company has a ton of open reqs - there are plenty of jobs and a shortage of skilled labor
      Jan 2, 2018

It’s a shortage for the pay grade companies are offering. Start paying engineers like Athletes are paid and I guarantee you there won’t be a shortage.

Dubai has high wages in many fields, particularly for American companies, and most importantly has NO taxes. If you calculate how much you end up paying in taxes in the US - federal, medicaid sales tax, state tax, city tax, capital gains tax - that's a HUGE. And you won't need to keep hearing Bernie Bros tell you that you're not paying your "fair share".

It's also a shorter flight to China, India and Europe.

You can literally visit India every weekend. Low cost airlines, it’s a 2.5-4 hr flight.

Europe is 5-7 hours away, but China is 8-9 hours away not very short.

      Jan 2, 2018
    • Microsoft fjudud
Who cares. You're there to make money, not to live there forever. Plus which Dubai is not Saudi. It's quite modern.
      Jan 2, 2018
    • Apple Deported
Want even more modern slavery? It’s called the H-1B with quasi-infinite green card lines making it difficult to change jobs. And all that while paying through the nose on taxes.

In Dubai you don’t get permanent residency, but they also don’t tax your income at all.

And, rights to live there are not granted differently to foreigners based on where they were born - you can change jobs and get promoted to management at will without losing anything.

You do need to work a good company (but you are already doing that in the US, so that’s not difficult to accomplish).
      Jan 2, 2018
    • Microsoft fjudud
Completely agree. The no tax alone is like a 50% increase (In US you have property tax sales tax, payroll tax, Medicare tax, excise tax, state income tax, city tax, federal income tax...)

Imagine that if there is mass migration to other countries, there could be another donald trump there and tgey may chnage their laws too. Where will you go next? Its wisest to go back to your own country and start something on your own. You can always be a freelancer and make good money living in your home country and making money in $$$

  • Indians... do not go to SEA. Indians get automatically 1/3 salary of whites. It might be logical, Indians are OK with living in a sleeping bag.

Canada - Express Entry could give you instant permanent residency.

Dubai - very good temporarily, and no taxes. As long as you can get a proper eng job (possible at Palantir and Apple). If you don’t plan for new kids in the next n years, spend n years in Dubai. Work for American companies, not local ones.

Germany - gotta learn German, generally speaking. It’s not too easy.

Singapore - meh, it’s ok as a temporary option.

Coding under the table - Unless you want to give blowjobs to the person who’s paying you, don’t do this.

Canada as a temporary destination if I don't want too drastic of a change. So it is either home or Canada then. China has the second biggest IT industry in the world after all, though I prefer the lay back style in Western countries more, but that is a bonus not essential.

There are 2 facts. America need labor and h1b is being exploited. These are not mutually exclusive. I meant, you still can reform h1b while you address the need for labor. With genuine attempt, America can retain the skilled foreign labor and improve domestic readiness. Visa exploiters and cheap labor don't stand a chance.

      OP
But here’s the thing: big business values both types of H1B labor. The high skilled ones are driving innovation and the low skilled staff aug types help cut operating expenses. Why would they fight for one over the other?
      Jan 2, 2018
    • New kng711
For low skilled jobs you don't use h1b. That's how it's being abused.
