Which is better? Take into account pay, wlb, people, learning experience.
Implementation Consulting is sh_t work. Strat (MBB) or nothing.
Are there strategy consulting on technical side? I.e. technical infrastructure side... just curious if others have experience
Yes, I work on data strategy/data science.
Strategy Consulting looks more badass on resume but they can just take your strategy then say goodbye to you.
Implementation, depends on the area Ops/HCM/Cyber/Tech/Transformation? Some could be more rewarding than others. Else Strategy overall could be a better domain
How about job prospects and job prospects during a downturn. Implementation may not look “badass” but I suspect inplememtation consulting as a career may have more legs.
No. Not sure why you think that?
Strategy is definitely higher end, but strat consultants struggle to transition into implementation roles if/when they go to the client side. They’re not used to delivering
Generally speaking strat consulting is way better/higher respected than implementation . However per my opinion it should be reversed - if you cannot implement your idea into real world , how can a client verify your ideas is correct ( or just shit of Powerpoint decks)? correct me if i am too narrow on this concept!
I’m getting the impression that few of you have worked in consulting.
Wow... since you thought it’s a worthy question, let me put it more clearly .. implementation strategy is for dum dums.
I haven’t been in strategy but I’m a Workday implementation consultant (financials product) and it definitely isn’t seen as a prestigious role but I think stability wise- it would depend on the software you’re implementing. Workday is high demand and can only be implemented by certified consultants which have to be renewed twice a year and can only be active if you are part of a partner consulting company of Workday. So it’s pretty stable. But ERPs usually go through a ten year cycle so we’ll see how it lasts. Comp wise, I’d love to know as well but I think lower grades get paid higher but the cap may be lower. I doubt anyone gets paid more than 250 TC as just a impl consultant. You’d have to get into sales.
How is that even a question?
