Interesting read not the only Company doing that in tech

I personally like the IBM concept of a millennial silhouette. Yes, IBM, that’s what we look like.

Don't worry @movin, you are not going to stay under 40 forever. May be you are hoping to retire by then but you never know what time has in store for you. It's sad that we being young feel that above 40 should be thrown out of workforce .

Illumina Movin OP Mar 26, 2018

According to the linked story it’s not “we” anyone who think the oldsters should be thrown out. It’s the conclusion and long term strategy of the old people who are leading IBM.

It took a while to read, but it exposes IBM as a sick and super depressing place to work. It also partly explains older workers animosity towards the younger foreign workers and also why they support trump.

Illumina Movin OP Mar 26, 2018

I hadn’t thought about the trump angle. I also didn’t realize IBM was known for trump support.

IBM Dazed Mar 26, 2018

I’m at IBM and I can assure you there is no blanket support of Trump. IBM has as diverse political ideology as any company with employees from every background and orientation imaginable. And while there are some major issues to be addressed in how IBM practices resource planning, some of this article is just not well researched. I personally know one of the people interviewed. The person fell asleep in meetings, forgot actions during discussions, didn’t advance projects anywhere near the time others did on the team with similar projects and left team members holding the bag. The person’s claim of being pushed out due to age is just not true. It was pure performance. There’s merit in questioning why actions are taken that target the group demographics some policies have impacted but when an individual is singled out it’s reviewed at multiple levels to ensure it is a documented case as IBM is not going to risk a lawsuit to move one individual out of the business.

I was laid off at 51 years old. I assume it was more because of my salary than my age. They also laid off one of my younger employees who had a higher salary (NYC office). My boss (VP) was laid off shortly after me.
