Im BI analyst living in midwest low CoL place. I desperately want to gtfo from here as ive been here my whole life. i also want to pivot to SWE. would it be better for me to eat shit here and work on SWE related projects and then eventually try to move out to the bay area(or anywhere else really) or try to jump to a bigger company (FAANG etc.) as an analyst and pivot then?

Day one of high school. Drop out. Walk up to Tim Apple. Convince him to make you be the CEO of APPL. Turn the company around. Run for President of the United States. Win. Invade Ukraine. But it was a distraction. Your F-15s are landing on the moon (you secretly developed this tech while on the toilet). Declare all of space an American colony.

Just eat shit and grind Leetcode in the Midwest like I’m doing right now.. When you finally hate yourself and are depressed from realizing how garbage you are at DS and algorithms and that you have no brain or soul anymore. Then you are ready to move out west, then you are maybe ready for an interview at FAANGGULTAD.

are you already in swe or trying to pivot as well? i ask because will just doing leetcode be enough or should i be working on a side project and taking maybe a udemy course or something?

Trying to pivot hard atm.. I’m working as an EE right now. I’m doing all of the above, having some strong side projects to show for is super important from what I’m told. However it seems that once you get to the point of an on-site all that matters is how much leetcode you ground! 💰

Its probably eaiser to switch to SWE at your current company and then make it to FAANG than to go to FAANG than switch to SWE but that's just a guess.
