Instagram Graph API

I have an Instagram account with ~30k followers that I manage through an app that I have built myself. This app basically automates repetitive tasks that I found annoying. I created this a while ago and it’s not particularly complex. But I recently noticed that IG is updating their API to use Graph API. From my understanding, the new API won’t allow access to update captions anymore (or any POST requests, only GET requests). Is this true? I haven’t found anything else so far. On the page: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/Instagram-api/reference/user/media It says that updating and deleting operations are not supported. Is this temporary or will it be added later? 😭 Is anyone here affected by the API update? What do you think about it? What are the new features that you look forward to? I generally like the update since it prevents reading public profiles data. I’m also annoyed by all bots that spam me. But if they are removing POST requests all together then every IG manager app becomes useless while the IG app itself is really bad when it comes to managing an account. (I won’t post my IG handle since it would reveal everything about me)

Many years ago I built a web app that utilized the Facebook Graph API to query for various data on any public profile/page/group. I recently tried to make a similar web app but Facebook blocked access to many of the public API endpoints, and required me to fill out an application explaining what my app was about, why I need to access that API endpoint, what I was going to do with that data, etc. If some internal Facebook committee approved of the application they’d grant me access. You might have to do the same for Instagram but I’m not sure.

In the apps page there is a section where you are required to post screencasts and explain how your app uses each endpoint. I believe this is required for all apps in order to get approved (taken out of development mode).

30k followers is impressive! Mind sharing some tips on how to get more followers?

Post once a day, more is not required. The important thing is to use good hashtags and interact with everyone that comments quickly. You want to use relevant hashtags but as unique as possible. For example #fitness will disappear in a huge pile of pictures and you won’t get exposure within the hashtag. The other important thing is to find similar accounts and interact with them through mentions, stories, comments, likes. My designer friend recently went from 0 to 9k followers in 30 days by doing this. He posts digital art of animals in surreal environments.
