Asking for a friend.
She is a Visual designer with 1 year experience. Got an offer for Interaction designer role in a public company (1000-5000 employee) in the Bay Area.

Wanted to see if you think how much should she negotiate:

107k Base
36k RSU
Bonus up to 10%

Thanks

Design recruiter here. ONE year of experience?? She better take that shit and run. I hired candidates who were making $80-$90k.

Btw it does not hurt to always negotiate but have a valid reason not just “I want more”.

Are you implying Facebook pays a lot more than those 80~90k companies for candidates with similar background?

does fb have a crazy huge designer shortage?

Definitely not a shortage, we are getting into many things which calls for even more.

Hbkw18: Facebook has to make it fair for everyone so let’s say we give candidates who make good money a standard offer of let’s just say $120k and then a candidate of the same level is at some company paying them only $80k, we would never lowball that one candidate and just give them $5k more. We have to pay them at least the standard of what everyone is making in that level and role. Fb is super transparent and many people talk about their pay publicly so fb can’t afford to lowball that one candidate. It’s a very fair company.

Facebook has a designer surplus, if anything. Something like 400+ product designers iirc.

It was 400 a year ago. I️ believe it should be around 600+ now globally.

600+? Whoa. I love Facebook’s design, but what do 600 designers work on? Amazon has 1700 so I’m not saying this is nuts or irrational. Just genuinely curious.

Product Designer Manager at FB here (posting from my hubby’s account). All things considered this is a decent deal for a mid size company. As a one year visual designer, likely from a low salary agency (I have been there), and no competing offer, you don’t really have much bargaining power. Negotiate some sign up and/or relocation probably in 10-15k range maybe. Your primary focus should be on building up strong portfolio as soon as possible and jump ship in a few years. Welcome to Bay Area! Arguably the best place for designer career :)

And yes in FB we cannot hire good UX designer fast enough. If you are L4/L5 working in Ads hit me up (so I can use my hubbys phone more often haha) for other orgs plz PM our recruiter upstairs (Gufrj40).

Holy shit. Can't possibly see how much more you can negotiate for because with only one year of experience that's a sweet ass deal.

    Why not state the company?

She thinks the company is small and concerns someone will find out who she is
