Facebook are planning to fly me out to Menlo Park for an on-site interview in the coming weeks. They've arranged a call to go through the details, but I was wondering whether anyone here could tell me if it's policy for candidates to pay for the trip out of pocket of then be reimbursed afterwards? I have the money, but the entire trip will add up to a fair amount as they're flying me out from Austealia. I have the money, but it's still a decent amount to have to outlay. Has anybody else here done this? and how did you manage getting off a 16 hour flight and then doing all day intergiews.?
I had this experience a couple of months ago. After agreeing on an interview date they will organise a contact for you to book return flights for you as well as 2 nights of accommodation. You'll be able to expense the necessary meals and transportation costs.
Great thanks! Did you have any issues with jetlag and interview performance? Anything I should I keep in mind?
I had two nights before my interview and that was enough to catch up for me. They are really transparent with what can be expensed much like the rest of the interview process. I don't have much to say except the seasons are opposite over there and if it is your first time in the US you might want to understand a bit about the tipping culture so you don't make any faux pas.
Keep in mind that you don't have to restrict the flight dates to only be an in and out around your interview. I don't know about Facebook specifically, but other companies I've interviewed with are fine if you want to have flight dates that allow for some travel before and after the interview (obviously additional accommodations are at your own expense). Considering you'd be flying from Australia, might as well get in a few days early to get accustomed to the jet lag and relax a bit, interview, then visit the Bay area to see if you like it. Good luck mate!
Awesome, great stuff to know! Appreciate it!
Very likely you will get a prepaid card with a fixed dollar amount for you to spend within a short span. Amazon sent me one for $640 for a domestic interview. Hotel and fights were arranged by the recruitment team. So I didn't have to expense a penny
Hotel and flights were arranged, but I, as a fb interviewee, had to expense everything else. The expensing processes was straightforward for me.
Out of curiosity, if you got the job what work visa would you get? Assuming you're an Aussie.
E-3. Facebook would assist with the whole process.
Yeah as bQrl44 said, generally it's an E-3. But I'm a dual citizenship.
Lol. Folks obviously haven't interviewed with FB yet. It is spelled out in the interview traveled docs. They will prepay the hotel and flight. Everything else you have to cover and get reimbursed. International limit for reimbursement is $500. Some limitations called out - no liquor, basic rental car or taxi, meals up to $75 day including tips, no guest/spouses, and 2 night hotel max unless interview finish too late and 3rd night needed for international traveler. Reimbursement via Concur.
They will pay everything .. eat in the best restaurants for your trip
That's not really my style. I have an issue spending other people's money and try and keep expense reports as low as possible, even if it is Facebook. I'm more interested in how the reimbursement process works.
Other people’s money ? It’s one of the perks you either take it or not it’s up to you. Pay for your tickets or food if you like.. but it’s ok to ask your recruiter to book for your hotel and flights
