Looking for suggestions on investing (etfs, stocks etc). Being on a Visa complicates things since I am uncertain of how much to invest here and how much in home country (India). How do you split or do you just invest in US. Do platforms like Robinhood or vanguard have a way forward if you lose status at some point?
If you’re young setup a basic 8-9/10 risk profile on wealth-front. They’ll do low cost investing along with tax loss harvesting for you. Make this your long term portfolio and invest most of your money in it. Acquaint yourself with some financial markets know how before you build a securities portfolio of your own.
I’m on a similar boat with a visa and invest in Robinhood, Betterment and mutual funds back home for the past 2 years. I believe you can redeem funds remotely as everything is pretty much online. Don’t worry much. Keep calm and invest.
Can you move your investments to an international account without selling them?
You don’t have to live in the US to keep your money in the US. You don’t need a visa or anything like that. Unless you’re a terrorist, the US welcomes your money. Anyone’s money.
Most of the trading account requires US presence though right? I am just trying to avoid hassles by using the right platform. Say I use Robinhood. After leaving US, can I easily transfer my account elsewhere and operate without having to sell investments?
I’m not sure about transferring stock to another broker internationally. You may need to sell and rebuy. Any good broker outside the US would allow you to buy US stock.
Pretty much anything can be done online.
What did u do about investments OP?
Yes. If they let you invest, why not... I suggest you diversify
