Married joint TC is 280k. I max out my 401k contrib all on low expense Vanguard funds. Rest of my savings is on VOO Vanguard fund and 5% in cash. I save 47% monthly. Are there any other pre/post tax investments that I can look into ? like ROTH IRA ? any advice would be helpful.
Max our backdoor Roth for you and your spouse. That’s $12k total of after tax money. Kids? If so, set up a 529 fund. High deductible medical plan offered? If so, set up and max our HSA contributions. Does your spouse also max out 401k employee contributions? And max meaning $19k, not max for employer match.
Actually my wife is not FTE, so she doesn't have a 401k, and we don't have kids.
How do I know if my employer 401k allows for backdoor Roth ?
As long as you don’t ride a market bust to the bottom, you should be ok. Keep some dry powder handy over the next 2 years.
What does that mean ?
Here's a great article about how to shield investments from taxes. I'd recommend checking it out: https://www.millennial-revolution.com/invest/workshop-invest/making-investments-tax-free/
If you're looking for investment options this might work or not for you. Depending on your goals for long term send me a message if you would like to know more information.
Should probably do Roth IRA +401k max before taxable accounts
