Or should I LC to Target tier 1s? How many companies in NYC pays as well as tier 1s?

Where is $165k not livable? What type of lifestyle are you trying to have, though?

Explain where your $800 after taxes was spent on a monthly basis.

Had own startup, slept on a friend’s couch, $400/month rent FAR from city, spent $1.50/day on food (ramen mostly), did anything to get free food

That is why startups are a young person’s game. Once you get paid high TC you think it’s impossible to live below the poverty line.

      A lot of people are:
      1. outliers
      2. lying

Remember that the data here and on levels.fyi is a subset of the technology market.

Also, TC with stocks is not as useful as what's on your W2 at the end of the day imo (should be similar if you sell the stocks immediately)

That said, if you're senior and shooting for high paying companies, you can crack 250 TC

NYC is expensive but you can survive with this salary. How lavish of lifestyle are you looking for? Live within your means!!!!

      Good. That's healthier anyways. 😊

I'm actually thinking about moving to NYC from LA myself and pending a response from one company. Don't want to get into FAANG in NY... feel like it's just too much craziness

Based on what you’re saying, you should be fine and even be able to put some $$$$ aside.

100k gets you a comfortable life in Manhattan with some minimal budgeting, if you’re willing to have roommates (or find a cheap studio in a less hot location like uws). How much you save depends on your desired lifestyle

Plenty of white collar professionals live on ~80k TC in the city, without sacrificing the ability to go out and have fun too. (You may have to squeeze for your living conditions though.)

Thanks guys for the feedback. It's gonna be my first time living in NYC so I don't know how to budget for living here. Based on what u guys said, I should be ok if I manage my cost of living well.

    Thx

      @Op:
      1. How old are you?
      2. Are you married/Living with a SO?
      3. Any kids?
      4. Where are you planning on living?
      5. What kind of "entertainment" are you looking for?

I think all of these make a difference in your spending.
