Is BIE (business intelligence engineer) a dead end road?

Have been a BIE for 3 years and hitting the wall with learning anything new. Tired of being a SQL monkey. Looking out for options but none of the alternatives are good or the good ones need experience. Researched the data science path, but looks like it a bubble with no clear long term career path. Researched the data engineering path, but looks like they need more technical experience like spark, Scala, etc Not interested in becoming a manager too. Am I stuck in a rabbit hole? Any way out?

Try Analytics driven role with business teams at tech firms - FAANG and likes. Such roles have a technical hands-on side coupled with outcome oriented role. You’d learn and enjoy the business exposure. Can start with targeting business domains that interest you the most like BizOps, Supply Chain, Marketing, Ads Sales etc.

So you don’t want to stay in current job and don’t want to learn any new skills?

Exactly my point

is it general consensus that data science (analytics, not deep learning / research) is bubble / dead end path? certainly not as established as SDE or PM paths but seems like steadily more widespread and established in tech companies?

Also DS roles are going to only increase due to their demands in every sector right?

You can do backpacking to get out of the rabbit hole.

Funny enough I'm looking to get into BI. Been an data analyst for past 3+ years. Any advice?

If you are bored and literally not challenging yourself to learn a new skill like python or spark , then you deserve to be stuck- you aren’t unsticking yourself by complaining - I started in BI , spent time learning python and then took data science courses and spark courses which many are FREE online and applied myself - and was hired into new and better roles - sorry to be blunt but you sound like a complainer who wants something given instead of taking the time to learn- instead of posting on blind , you should be learning a new tech - @Amazon , where I used to work, I can attest that my kind of drive is rewarded ; I can see why you feel like u do-

Take courses in Data Science/R/Statistics. See if you can get a certification. One of my colleagues at Google moved from Finance to Data Science after one year of intense prep.

If you can learn data engineering, python oo design, r, stats, analytics and how it helps product, you can go places. Analytics managers can make more money and have more respect than product.

But to add to that, if you want to be VP I think you need an MBA long term

You can be a VP without a MBA. True at Google.
