The reviews for Oracle /OCI seem to be all over the place, with majority being negative and mostly “don’t come here “, “run” etc. I just got an offer and the tc is almost *.4x my current comp. benefits seem kind of comparable as well and I read here that WLB is great. So what exactly is the problem?
You need to think about it's vision.. do you really think OCI will even reach to a point where GCP is? Forget about Azure or AWS... It is more like "Everyone is going to the cloud, we will do the same"... They need to have good leaders... Just throwing $$$ wouldn't work...
They have built in customers. As long as they charge less for oracle licenses than AWS they will have some customers. Just like Azure
Would love to see :) remind me after 5 years!
What workloads do they have except taking Oracle DB to SaaS?
Many enterprise companies want to get away from Oracle and their abusive relationship. As new services grow that can replace Oracle at scale then customers will slowly migrate. Oracle is a sinking ship but vendor lock in allows them to stay customer hostile because it takes so freaking long to migrate (and in many cases completely rebuild) software.
My observation is that they pay a looot but still get only the second tier from azure and aws. Haven’t seen anyone I consider rock star go there. They are getting good engineers and PMs with that money but not the cream
BS. They got lots of core engineers who built up ec2, s3 or aws in genernal. msft ppl usually have a hard time ramping up, it is not just the ones who joined OCI but ones who joined amzn/g or everywhere else.
Yep. I can confirm that 3 of the rockstar SDEs from my team moved to oci.
Join and you’ll see!
I am not sure what this means? Any insights you provide will be helpful
Expectations of IC2 vs IC3?
Yup join and you will have some surprises. Lol
Unfortunately these people are right.. It's a mess
Why would you leave for 0.4x your current comp?
I think he meant 4x.. I was offered close to 1M.... It was insane
Oh.. dam.. of course I’d go. That’s 3 extra years of your life you get to work less of
