Is Oracle OCI really that bad?

The reviews for Oracle /OCI seem to be all over the place, with majority being negative and mostly “don’t come here “, “run” etc. I just got an offer and the tc is almost *.4x my current comp. benefits seem kind of comparable as well and I read here that WLB is great. So what exactly is the problem?

SAP Poundtown May 28, 2018

Why would you leave for 0.4x your current comp?

Amazon 3headed🐒 May 28, 2018

I think he meant 4x.. I was offered close to 1M.... It was insane

SAP Poundtown May 28, 2018

Oh.. dam.. of course I’d go. That’s 3 extra years of your life you get to work less of

Amazon 3headed🐒 May 28, 2018

You need to think about it's vision.. do you really think OCI will even reach to a point where GCP is? Forget about Azure or AWS... It is more like "Everyone is going to the cloud, we will do the same"... They need to have good leaders... Just throwing $$$ wouldn't work...

They have built in customers. As long as they charge less for oracle licenses than AWS they will have some customers. Just like Azure

Amazon 3headed🐒 May 28, 2018

Would love to see :) remind me after 5 years!

Microsoft underuper May 28, 2018

What workloads do they have except taking Oracle DB to SaaS?

Microsoft FUSkype May 28, 2018

Dont u just love it when people comment without even a bit of homework! Typical Microsoft

Microsoft Pediasure May 28, 2018

Lol - I will revert back soon

Amazon Joff Bezos May 28, 2018

Many enterprise companies want to get away from Oracle and their abusive relationship. As new services grow that can replace Oracle at scale then customers will slowly migrate. Oracle is a sinking ship but vendor lock in allows them to stay customer hostile because it takes so freaking long to migrate (and in many cases completely rebuild) software.

Microsoft dotme May 28, 2018

My observation is that they pay a looot but still get only the second tier from azure and aws. Haven’t seen anyone I consider rock star go there. They are getting good engineers and PMs with that money but not the cream

Amazon sde3 May 28, 2018

BS. They got lots of core engineers who built up ec2, s3 or aws in genernal. msft ppl usually have a hard time ramping up, it is not just the ones who joined OCI but ones who joined amzn/g or everywhere else.

Amazon legend May 29, 2018

Yep. I can confirm that 3 of the rockstar SDEs from my team moved to oci.

Oracle Oh well! May 28, 2018

Microsoft egevge Jun 2, 2018

Yup join and you will have some surprises. Lol

Microsoft larryell Jun 9, 2018

Unfortunately these people are right.. It's a mess

Microsoft Xcffff Jun 10, 2018

Thanks. Do you work at OCI or Msft?

Microsoft BpXr87 Jun 10, 2018

What happened?

Microsoft picxi Jun 26, 2018

Oci is the best company ever. Please join and don't ask for exhorbitant TCs. Think of wanting to make cloud from ground up

Microsoft Leetcodw Jun 26, 2018

Is this sarcasm

Microsoft picxi Jun 26, 2018

No
