One of the teams in Amazon is asking whether I can come onsite for tools and frameworks teams.
Software infra is a good role IMo.
No. It’s a good role for people who spend their time trying to make their job easier to do. If you think like you do instead of like that it’s probably not a great fit for you
SDE in tools is a Production Engineer without systems knowledge, OP asked a reasonable question.
I’m not saying OP asked a bad question. Also tools engineer at FB is a full SWE with regular comp and many will have system knowledge so that varies a lot. My point is if you think less of people that work in tools and you’re not passionate about it it’s probably not the best place to go work on something you’re motivated in.
No
I’m fascinated by what a tools team might work on at Amazon — this must be more like an R&D job than SDET? How hard is it to use AWS, really?
That team builds some super cool stuff OP. Amazon has some world class internal tools. I would give them a chance.
That’s not SDET, and I have a lot of appreciation for tools team for saving me time! (Also have appreciation for SDET)
