Want to be close to work. But heard the place is dead at night. What’s the pros and cons of living in Soma?
Hayes valley is nice
Soma doesn’t have a neighborhood feel. If you are looking for that.
Soma is huge so depends where exactly. Places tend to be open more now as more people move in. But sure not nearly as many bars/food as other neighborhoods. Also units tend to be nicer/newer with more amenities if that matters to you. Prices can be expensive but not that much more than comparable units elsewhere. Plus if it’s walkable you can save 100 bucks a month in bus rides and whatever your time is worth to you.
Soma is shady as fuck.
Why is it shady? Is it a dangerous area? Thinking around the area near target
Homeless. Mentally challenge people. Weird people. I once got asked for a light from a guy who looked like Danny DeVito and was dressed in a lacy flimsy nightie.
This was at 9PM. Once the startups in that area shut and people go home - then soma takes on a different light.
Yeah it is dangerous. And especially 5th street onwards. Noe valley, pac heights and hayes valley are the best.
How about around 2nd and Folsom? Ideally would want to be close to muni and other transit options... are there public transit in Hayes valley?
Yes that’s a very nice area. Generally anything east of 4th or 5th is perfectly safe and the closer you get to Embarcadero the nicer and more expensive it becomes. A lot of these areas even pay for cleaning crews to keep the streets clean. Or as clean as one can expect a public street to be in SF
It's expensive as fuck (even food wise etc). There's plenty of homeless etc. Why not live in Potrero Hill or something similar?
