Is Tesla model 3 worth the money?

After tax rebates and without autopilot, it comes to around $36000. I have a daily commute of 25 miles.

The better question is will Tesla be around for the term of your loan or lease. Doubtful. $900 million bond payment due in March. Interest rates on the rise, especially for speculative (junk) debt. Debt load increasing faster than sales revenue. Bankruptcy secured.

Don’t worry. Shorts always add things up in strange ways to try to prove a point.

Yep. And long’s will just talk it up with no logic to speak of.

      Funding secured. Lol

Ok, Tesla can fail, but it will get acquired by someone else. So car owners still have some support. Too many people are using Tesla for it to be just abandoned.

^ Correct. This or they’ll pull through and be extraordinarily successful long term. I hope for the latter.

Yeah... so considering this, will you still advise people to not go for Tesla... Model S is expensive but amazing. Model 3 is okay.

The quality is terrible for the price of x and s. Door/fender gaps, cheap materials, etc. maybe a 3 just for the experience which is amazing imo (assuming it’s as good as s or x. I’ve never driven a 3).

Okay... just test drove the P100 D once so don’t know about materials etc. but the acceleration and speed was top notch. I mean I have to buy a sports to car to rival with Model S.

I think it’s apples and oranges comparison. Tesla is in a universe of its own. Not sure it’s comparable to a 911 or comparably priced hydrocarbon fueled sports car.

I'm also considering a new car and decided against Tesla. The progress they've made for electric vehicles is very important, but you can get a pretty nice gas/hybrid car with good MPG for 10k less.

Could you give an example of other comparable cars with 10k less price? And also why they are comparable to Model 3?

Yeah I am a fan of Tesla because I like their cars. What's wrong with that? I just want to know a different perspective of other people to see why others think differently about the car.

Wow why waste your money on a Tesla when you can buy a 1988 Oldsmobile for 98% less and you won’t have to deal with the depreciation wow

Certified Pre-owned 2014 Tesla Model S are also selling for around $36000 with free supercharging and autopilot. Much bigger and comfortable car IMO.

Autopilot hardware wasn’t available until 2016 - be careful who you take advice from on here and do your own homework.

Tesla doesn't do CPO anymore, any used cars are as is. Just a FYI.

@T-Mobile Some 2014 model S have autopilot. All model S from 2015 onwards have autopilot capability.

@GoodRx Those pre-owned model S on Tesla’s own website will get an inspection and a 2 year warranty. Definitely not as-is.

Would love a Tesla engineer to weigh in, but as I know it the hardware is not at parity with what is in today’s cars. They have gone through iterations in production vehicles.

  • Microsoft FBisEvil
No, they terrible reliability. They have large panel gaps on. 40k vehicle, wheel axis problems, the trunk leaks water, cold weather reduces the battery range by up to half, etc. they rushed production on this in a tent bc Elon musk thinks doing acid makes him an engineer.

Check out consumer reports and the BBB on m3 and Tesla respectively.

Don’t waste your money. Don’t invest that much in a car. If you do want to there are a lot of cpo cars which are way more luxurious.
    Feb 181
    • Microsoft FBisEvil
Yes! Leasing has been a popular option in the easy credit environment of the last decade. Now there’s a huge supply of used luxury vehicles with low mileage. It’s easy to find < 30k, 40k.

Be smart with your money. You could have a car accident that leaves you unable to work. Probably from a negligent Tesla drive using their autopilot misnomer feature without keeping their hands on the wheel leaving them unable to adjust when their car doesn’t see you bc Tesla only uses camera and doesn’t have lidar radar like other car companies.

    I have a model 3.

Is it worth the money? No it's not a smart financial decision. Might as well get a used Prius if you are thinking of money.

I bought it mostly because I wanted it. It was a emotional purchase.
    Feb 181
    • Microsoft FBisEvil
A used Prius is also a more environmentally friendly decision.

I love the car and it only gets better over time the over the air updates are great. I’ve had the new civic and bmw 3 series before. When you buy them the dash tech gets dated a year or two. I feel tesla with the updates again will be better with time they’ve released a lot since I’ve purchased 6 months ago. I have zero regrets and in terms of reliability I find it very reliable. Less moving parts no belts no oil changes. I frequently drive from Northern California to LA about once a month and have had no issues.

For 36k it's more than worth it. That's a great price for that car.

My understanding is you'll pay a bit more than that though once out the door.
    Feb 184
    • Microsoft iiieeegemm
Consider also the car doesn't really wear like a regular car.

So $35k for an ev isn't really the same as $35k for a gas car.
      Feb 18
    • Microsoft FBisEvil
Uh, you can’t get a base model for less than 41k. A 35k model 3 was why many people preordered and Tesla took their deposits but they’ve been unable to produce anything profitable at that price

It’s hard to qualify “worth the money “, but I love it, it beats every aspect of my BMW 5, except maybe the paint. If money can buy you happiness, I would go for it. Lol

U get honda clarity with 65 mpg with 13k less value. Now do the math for 300k miles - decent life range of a car if u drive it for 12-15 years
    Feb 180
  • Zillow Group jacksanz
Depends on how you define your worth of money. It could be just feeling it. Financial wise, the cost to own for each year will be less comparing to other cars with the same price range due to lower maintenance/fuel cost and lower depreciation rate.
