Got news that the position I was supposed to be brought onsite for is getting canceled. They’re trying to set me up with a second phone screening with someone on the same dept for the same role but different req. is this actually not uncommon?
Yes that is common. Amazon positions may have multiple overlapping on site interviews going on in the same week . However the decision to hire a candidate is determined by solely assessing that individual’s performance, as opposed to comparing among candidates. Thus it’s possible to have the requisition filled when another candidate is at the on site stage
Ah got it, so there’s a chance that a candidate could be the only one interviewing for that position?
It happens a lot, not sure how to define common or normal.

Happened to me twice. For me it was before onsite though. I had to go through on site prep call twice since I got to schedule onsites twice lol. Hopefully I actually get to interview this time
Is the onsite call something that you have to prepare for? They mentioned it in the email that a recruiter would be calling to go over logistics
No it's just that. You aren't being interviewed. You can use it to get the interview format and etc
Yes it is common and not unique to Amazon. It also more than likely has very little to do with you personally. Things shift with budget, needs, reporting structure, sometimes wires are crossed and someone else is hired into the role. So you’ll see these sort of changes when job hunting.
Common at any company that interviews for a concrete position (as opposed to interviewing for the company in general).
Happened to me but after the on-site and after I was accepted. Ultimately got to choose my team after that and had an informal meeting with the new hiring manager
Not common but not impossible
