I have been interviewing with a startup and at the later stage, the HR told me that If I would get back to hiring manager with an offer letter from different company, this would definitely speed HM up to make an action/offer. Later stage, I did receive an offer from another company and upon sharing it with the previous company, their reply is that they basically need the number/salary to understand if they can compete with 2nd company's offer. Does this make sense to anyone here? I haven't been into such weird situation before. Do I need share my offer with them? Can I share the email in which they presented the offer or only the e-copy of offer letter will work? Is it normal/legal to forward the email/offer letter in which the offer is presented to another employer?
Verbally give them the numbers but I wouldn’t provide actual docs to them.
Oh ok, even if they insist in the email, that they need a proof!
They shouldn’t be this insecure.
Will they require an offer every month to pay the salary then?
Yes there are no laws outlawing that, but it isn’t ethical to share the actual letter. Typically the recruiter asks for a company and approx amount without in writing. They have resources to check if the offer is legit without seeing it. It sounds like they want to call your bluff.
Oh ok, so just sharing the company name and the amount is enough?
Yes. No other details like recruiter name etc. because if the other recruiter finds out they can rescind the offer. Preferably by phone in verbal
You should share your total compensation expectations. What you want for base, bonus, etc.
Uh.... usually you just tell them the amount and other relevant details. If after that they still want proof you can show them proof.
Don’t share it. You don’t want to work somewhere that doesn’t trust your word as truth.
