My friend who has about 1.5yoe works at a startup in the analytics domain(TC around 100k). He single handedly manages a small part of the business. The manager is someone who micro manages and tries to take credit for everythings that he tries to improve. He recently told his manager “The way I work is a little different from the way things work here. We need to ensure data quality before delivering insights to our customers.” Do you think it’s ok to do so?
The answer is not obvious, because?
What do you mean by "ok"?
I’m trying to understand if that’s considered to be right or wrong
I mean that's not a super helpful clarification. Do you mean in terms of his career? How his boss will react? Ethically? Definitely need clarification on what ok means.
Yeah if your data quality sucks your product sucks. Don't deliver that to customers.
It’s not that bad, but just that he doesn’t get enough time to ensure accuracy. Which probably can suck at times. 😔
You definitely have the right mindset though! Your manager should listen.
Why the hell not?
Get him to read: Radical Candor. Then get him to share it with his boss.
Why tag G, F and A
Does it matter?
