Fuck Amazon and their sleazy, hairless mole of a CEO who has time to send dick pics but not enough to treat employees in a humane manner
He didn't really talk about his own performance. Just complained he got pipped. He said it was a retaliation, but it sounded more like he was not doing well (his pivot appeal committee agreed). Its easy to hate on a company who fires you. It's hard to introspect if you were actually providing value to your team.
Your comment assumes pivot appeals actually have merit and are not just a sham for Amazon to cover its ass in lawsuits. From the article, it seems he was claiming the latter.
How do you know that he’s not performing badly because his bad manager was causing him psychological stress and bullying him? This happened to me at my previous company where I had a shitty ex-Amazon manager. Regardless of whether the guy was performing badly, that does not make all these other allegations okay, like ending up making him and his wife separate and having to be single parents and making him go to work at 7 when everyone else goes in 4 hours later.
Just scary
People with poor English language communication skills are always the ones who get PIPed out. You can see from the way this guy writes why it happened to him. I feel bad for him, but he seems a bit nutty too. Honestly a significant percentage of people win Pivot appeals - if he had a strong case, he would have won.
You are typical amazon guy. Write a big wiki and fart there. Tech is least about English. It is about code, design, algorithms etc. You fucker decorate wiki with English. Imagine his mental state and you expect solid English ? He is jobless, challenged daughter, and fighting for justice on road.
👏 Keep working on the English there, Apple guy.
Really sad reading the number of responses both here and on the blog post that are completely devoid of empathy.
I believe the whole story. And I feel bad that this guy had such a terrible situation. But at the same time I see a lot of steps he could have taken to protect himself and his family better from a lousy manager and heartless company. I hope he gets smarter and realizes how the world works is not at all how we’d like for it to work.
It is true Amazon in general doesn’t care about personal issues. If you can’t perform for a while due to death/illness/divorce etc that’s your problem and you will be rated low. Sad situation. No humanity.
Been there, seen that too. I'm lucky as my Amazon managers were in the range from ok to good, still Amazon is the only place where I felt that my future is extremely volatile no matter how much efforts I put into work. Never got anything less than achieves or exceeds and still decided to leave. Feel better now :) And the sad truth is that most of your SDE peers are like lambs on the slaughter - if you're in trouble like that poor guy it is not unusual to see that number of colleagues trying to support you shrinks to zero, esp. in the Amazon's melting pot environment. Lesson learned for me - fight with your negativity, don't leave negative feedback even with "anonymous" feedback tools unless you understand and accept possible consequences, if you're unhappy just leave. And having a plan B really helps to kindle hope - be it moving to the other team or moving to another country. Last but not least - no money is a substitute for true happiness in our short life. Best of luck to that poor guy and others in similar situation, my heart is with you people.
I have always heard about Amazon not treating their employees properly but this is on another level mannn !! Why aren’t they doing anything about this? 🤔 They should at-least know some of this right? Hate to be that poor guy !!
There are lot of cases like that
