Hello all, I am a Navy veteran with healthcare background, Masters degree in health informatics with concentration in data science and 3 years of experience in analytical field (mainly SQL, R, Python, Tableau) including my 8 months internship in VA hospital as data science intern. I am all over the place applying for data analytics jobs. I am not sure if it’s my military background that’s keeping me from finding a job or the market is just too cold and harsh right now in bay area. I would really appreciate any referrals from you guys. Things haven’t panned out quite the way I had imagined. Having a hard time making ends meet. Any effort to keep me afloat will be highly appreciated. May god bless you all!
What's your expected comp? Rate? Location? Are you open to other roles? Highest level of education? If no PhD then with SQL, R, Python I'd lean towards Business Intelligence Engineer over Data Scientist.
Expected total comp- will be happy with 130k-150k Location: Bay area Education: Masters Thanks for taking your time to read and respond. Really appreciate it.
If you find a role at Amazon that you meet the basic qualifications and want to pursue shoot me a DM
Thank you for your service and if you find any opportunities in Aptiv I will be glad to help
Will definitely look into it thanks!
usajobs.gov They give preference to veterans. To the point where very underqualified people get selected for a job cause they were a veteran (we had an aircraft mechanic doing technical writing, that did not go well). But that's a story for another day. TLDR: usajobs.gov
Lol. That story sounds interesting. 😂
He could barely use a computer (and he was not old). We gave him assignments to write documentation on how to build our software. He didn't know any software technologies (other than Word) and ask us how C++ works, what's Python, what's an interpreter, what's a library, etc. We had to keep him focused on what he should actually be doing and walked him through what he needed to write. At this point we all basically did his job for him that we were trying to offload in the first place. Once upper management got word of how bad he was, they wanted to walk him out the door that afternoon (he was a contractor), but we convinced the gods to give him the mercy of a two week notice.
Booz Allen Hamilton has healthcare presence and an office in SF!
Thanks for the info. Will definitely reach out to them.
BMS is super veteran friendly. We have a number of technical roles for statistical programmers on research teams and general software engineering for application development. And the obvious healthcare/pharmaceutical industry thing could be a match with your background. Might be worth a peek!
Thank you for your service .
