Have 1.5 years of experience at current company (first job out of college). I feel like I'm not gaining the skills that I want and would like to move to another company. I worked primarily on web development projects, but many of the projects that I have worked on are short term (few months) and are prototyping. It's not the worst but not what I'm looking for and I find it hard to become an expert or develop more knowledge from constantly switching. Also targeting the Seattle area. How should I go about looking for next job? Since I'm no longer a new grad I don't know if interviews will focus on DS/algorithm vs specific technologies and domain knowledge. Should I grind leetcode or focus on something specific? Also, tips on getting referrals also appreciated. Should I directly contact recruiters on LinkedIn at companies I'm interested in? Any advice or stories on how you guys got your second job is appreciated! Thank you :)
1) open LinkedIn to recruiters 2) leetcode 3) grokking system design interview 4) contact recruiters when you feel confident passing tech screen To start, take interview with all companies, even local, just for behavioral and technical practice. Know that Big N interviews often are not the same as local companies. Then contact recruiters after you have the confidence and ability to pass tech screens.
