I am fresh to USA. I was under the impression that reference checks are ubiquitous in USA. I am in a job hunt, and I was surprised to see that most companies are willing to roll out offers without checking references. I would like to know what are the highest paying Big Tech companies that don't check references. 8.5 yoe, 260 tc edit: A reference-check is where your future EM calls up a supervisor/colleague from your past jobs and enquires what it's like to work with you. I am NOT talking about a background-check where companies check your criminal history.
And why are you worried about checking references? Have you burned ALL your bridges?

They check references after giving an offer. They’ll take back an offer if you are lying.
