Just got laid off in Uber India
I just got laid off in Uber India. Trying to search for my next gig. My boss tells me it's performance but I'm not sure as I sense an ulterior motive. My main concern is how do I best answer this question when potential recruiters ask me why I'm not working right now or why I'm searching. Please help what do I do??
You can say you are working... or say you moved out and you want to wait till you get a job you like and then finally join. You can also really take a 3 month vacation

Just say you are on leave and it's easier to look around and prepare without a full time job. Although, I suppose recruiters are getting used to seeing recently unemployed Uber folks.

There was pretty big layoff round at Uber (Bangalore) recently.
Uber layoff is quite expected these days. This should not be much of an issue.
What could be that ulterior motive?
Removing low performers is a legit ulterior motive.
