Now that the ones in title are the de facto standard for system design and is considered a baseline, what other signals do interviewers look for? I'm sure spitting out stats from "Grokking the Sys Design" is not going to fly in a L5 game. For a Senior Level, Interviews at Goog, FB, DropBox, Uber, Lyft, Amzn, Square. Reading papers?
Have you actually read and internalized all of DDIA? It’s massive and I assumed it covered almost all topics covered by system design interviews (except maybe specialized interviews like DW architecture or something). I feel like the next step would be to read systems design research, like you said, or other sources of DDIA.
I have been reading white papers recently... but, designing such systems is actually more beneficial! Do you have an opportunity to design in your work ?
If you guys have an internal wiki like we have @ Amazon, I would recommend going through the design docs of some of the bigger projects and see why they made they trade offs they did.
MS fellas, is there a single place wiki like? AFAIK, our wiki is more like a tiny url based hit links. Unless one knows the keyword it just exists in space. Honestly documentation is poor! (incl my team)
