Does people/friends judge you as low competent or weak if they know that you are being laid off from your company?
Don’t care about what they think
Pretty normal in today’s career to get laid off sometimes
They wouldn't be very good "friend" for thinking that way. Good friends are friends with you because of who you are not where you work at.
If somebody’s gonna judge you for getting laid off from Yahoo they probably already judged you for working at Yahoo.
N strange thing is that they also worked at Yahoo but left just before layoff
I think people do think “something is wrong with you” but it is very common and it often doesn’t really make any sense as to who gets axed and who doesn’t. Like a few have already said, mature people get it - don’t waste any effort on people who don’t understand.
I find people who judge you for being laid off generally don't understand how layoffs work, especially in earlier stage companies. Your business unit was deemed not a good fit for the changed direction of the company, how's that your fault??
My favorite thing I've learned over the years is how many folks keep getting caught in a RIF of 1
What you mean? They lie about being in RIF and were really fired/piped
Were you just laid off or was this from several months ago?
I was in november
Sorry to hear it. I was worried they were doing another round.
Of course not. Layoffs are due to strategic decisions of the company. People will only judge you if you got PIP'd out.
Yes generally, but layoff happens for several other reasons. So mature people will understand
Yes its my unfortunate luck that i was working at Yahoo, anyways i wil not care abt ppl who think am in competent as they should be mature n the same can happen to anyone in tech.
Exactly i was at that situation earlier, i can help to refer in companies. Pm me.
