Lets see who has the lowest compensation

There is a similar thread currently going on where mostly FANG people are listing their salaries and it has become a dick measuring contest. For better comparison, let see what the remaining 99% of swe of the country makes. If you think you are underpaid or dont have a FAANG salary list it here. Ill start with what mine was before joining Amazon 4 months ago

It's all relative. I was at 135k for 2 years and pretty underpaid. Now I'm overpaid because I got lucky with the stock market. More or less just making up for lost time at the startup.

At Microsoft you get new stock every year. You can either count all the stock granted that year, or all the stock vesting that year, but not both. If you count vesting, you should count it at the grant price (even though vest price is what shows up on your w2).
      Apr 1, 2018
    • Microsoft Qoosjshh
Yea. I don’t double count. I think some people will say My comp is 190. It’s not. It’s 165.

      132 base
      27k bonus
      6k stock a year (30k grant a year)
      Apr 1, 2018
    • Microsoft / Eng Harmar
Do you have no stock vesting from previous years? Or sign-on?
      Apr 1, 2018
    • Microsoft Qoosjshh
      I do. I don’t count those.
      Apr 1, 2018
    • Microsoft / Eng Harmar
Then year 2-5 of your stock grants are never counted, which isn't correct. You should either count the whole current grant or all your current year vests.
      Apr 1, 2018
    • Microsoft Qoosjshh
I wouldn’t ever count sign on. It’s not recurring. I don’t count stock appreciation because that’s not planned comp.
      Apr 1, 2018
    • Microsoft / Eng Harmar
Right, sign-on muddies the water if it's inconsistent with yearly grants. But they'll generally aim for a soft landing when the sign-on expires.

    • Microsoft Qoosjshh
      Our sign on is cash.

Boeing has some good benefits for engineers that are part of the union. Time off with pay for partial day absences (without having to dig into vacation or sick leave) and overtime pay, which makes up for a lot when we are working 50-60 hour weeks.

But all that aside I got some pretty crap managers and ended up at the lower end of the curve (my experience doesn't account for higher level degrees). Average for level 3 SWE in my major organization was 124K last year (with an average years of experience at 16) so after raises should be around 128K this year (+ or - about 1K).

The #years in total experience? I think you should talk about the level/position people are in... I have 13+ years of experience, but I'm a senior dev and make accordingly (7 years of that in a services company; not sure if that counts)
