Middle aged SWE at a startup. Lots of experience- 12+ years. Opted to work for a startup. Wanted the feel. Compromised on TC. Okay at interviews - low on confidence. But several performance awards at previous job - had a reputation for getting things done. Now feeling depressed. Can someone help? TC: 165k Base Bonus : 15% Stocks : paper money

Haha i think its a common story. Getting successful in startups is like winning a lottery. If you win you might win big or else regular income. However, fang changed the equation last few years to attract highly skilled and motivated people against joining or forming startups. They can do it since revenue per employee justifies it. Im sure you made a fair decision when you joined the startup and you are successful in those terms. But external realities changed so reassess and make changes with the new info at hand :)
Fair perspective
I feel the same way. I left my job at a big company to go work for a start up. I enjoyed the added challenges and responsibility, but I hate the fact that I feel like I sacrificed tens of thousands of future earning potential. Even 1 year and a few months into the job I'm only 5k above my previous salary (not to mention the bonus and RSU)

Practice leet code medium level. Hacker rank medium level. Design prep should be easy for you. Now push yourself for interviews. These days coding questions are solvable in many good employers like fb, robin, uber etc.
